Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for players seeking different methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another lists all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
