Former Doctor Faces Sexual Assault Charges Against 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have stated that a ex- doctor stands accused of carrying out assaults against 38 individuals who were patients.

The Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Investigation

The charges come after what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

List of Charges

Prosecutors said the forty-five charges comprise:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
