The Animation Studio's Next Film Introduces Avatar-Style Adventure featuring Nature's Engineers
Pixar has unveiled the teaser for its upcoming animated feature, Hoppers, and it showcases a premise that is both quirky and amusing.
Plot Overview
Hoppers centers on a young nature enthusiast named Mabel Tanaka (played by Piper Curda), a teenage nature-lover who acquires the power to communicate with wildlife after experimenting with a form of Avatar-like-inspired device created by one of her college teachers.
“The conventional methods to study animals just were ineffective,” notes a scientists that invented the consciousness-transfer technology.
How Hoppers Works
Called “The Hoppers Device,” the gadget essentially operates similar to the mind-link system featured in the Avatar series films, with one key twist: Instead of waking up as a seven-foot-tall navy-colored alien, the protagonist's mind is moved into a mechanical creature form. Specifically, a robotic beaver-form.
Conflict and Characters
Much like Avatar main character Jake, Mabel soon ends up getting in a bit too deep with the residents of the wildlife world, unintentionally causing an creature uprising led by a regal monarch butterfly (voiced by Meryl Streep) and the leader of the beaver community (Bobby Moynihan), who are resolved to “crush the humans.”
At one point, villain Mayor Jerry (Jon Hamm) is confined in his vehicle by a pair of beavers and a reptile, who then go on to threaten him through his cellphone's text-to-speech function.
Premiere Date
Hoppers debuts in theaters on March 6.
