The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit program wrapping up—and a second season officially in the works—Gilligan and his team reflected on the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and online debates about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It's like being force fed hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a good idea for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
