The English Team to Start Euro 2028 Journey at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium
The English squad will commence their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they secure the expected passage for a championship staged throughout the majority of the UK and the Irish Republic.
The Etihad Stadium has not hosted an Three Lions game since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to stage the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.
The team are set to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their last-16 tie would be held at St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.
Championship Opening and Demonstration
The tournament was launched at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday night. Senior figures from Uefa and the host FAs were barracked as they arrived the site by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged Israel’s national side to be expelled from global football because of the Gaza crisis.
Signs were held up with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators called out: “Kick Israel out.”
Tournament Fixture List
The opening game of Euro 2028 will be played at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a game that will include Wales if they qualify.
Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the title decider, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a start time at 5pm.
It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to families and help engage a broader range of fans.
Qualifying Teams
The Irish team are due to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would play similarly at Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that miss out on Euro 2028 through the qualification path.
Stadiums and Elimination Phase
Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena finalize the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarterfinal matches played at every host’s main arena.
The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in Belfast, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.
Tournament Vision
“This will be a competition for the followers and a celebration of everything we value about the sport – its passion and ability to foster unity.”
More than three million admissions, a unprecedented number for a UEFA European Championship, are anticipated to be made available to attendees.
