The British designer Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry mourns the loss to a true visionary whose impact on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
