The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
