People have assembled around the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-initiated offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions continued in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken away to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel responded by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister remarked on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the release of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will no longer present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership delayed official commemorations until mid-October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still occurred throughout the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was conducted in the coastal city. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was televised on Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was held across the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' representatives met in the Egyptian coastal city of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to review the conditions of the agreement.

A senior Palestinian official knowledgeable about the discussions revealed that an evening round of mediated discussions began at evening in Egypt.

The official explained the earlier meeting finished without concrete outcomes, amid conflicting views over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not restart hostilities after the first phase of the arrangement.

He commented that the talks are "tough and have still not deliver any real breakthrough," but pointed out that facilitators are striving to close the differences between the both parties.

Essential Issues in Talks

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The swap of the prisoners still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance provision
  • After-conflict administration of the territory

Public Sentiment

In the city's public square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling lived through the incident on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place feels like home now and until every captive come back no one will feel safe."

"Once we see all home again, we can relax once more. Then we can start to rebuild," she added.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to show their backing for the relatives of the hostages. Israel states forty-eight remain in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be living.

Activist one woman stated: "We must do every compromise required for the abducted to come back home. But we truly desire assurances that we will be protected."

Research now regularly indicate that around the majority of Israelis want the war to conclude in return for the release of the abducted.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of Nova festival, grieving people gathered to pay their respects.

From the site, the boom of aerial bombardments and artillery could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers indicated the severe Israeli shelling continued.

In the main city, bombardments were documented in the morning of that day in the west side neighborhood, area and Nasr areas and in the east side area of the community, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"As the dusk falls, the fear arrives with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, described.

"My family are afraid of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, embracing, notably my smallest child who puts his head on me the entire evening."

"Every second we monitor the news to see developments. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be achieved and that the fighting will return to us."

Humanitarian Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had accepted the corpses of six people by the daytime, including three who died in an Israeli attack in the south part district.

A different healthcare center in the south region of Khan Younis reported two more victims had been transported. An individual was died by Israeli troops while looking for aid to the south region, medics stated.
